Mike Allred on Madman, Pt.1


by Zack SmithMike Allred was one of the major creator-owned success stories of the 1990s with his Harvey-winning creation Madman. Though it’s been a while since Madman graced comic shelves, Allred has stayed busy with such projects as X-Force/X-Statix at Marvel, and such creator-owned books as The Atomics, Red Rocket 7 and the Book of Mormon adaptation The Golden Plates.

But now, Madman is back with both collections of his previous series and Madman Atomic Comics, which recently began the long-awaited “Madman in Space” storyline. It’s clear that for Allred, this represents more than a return to a beloved character – it represents both a personal and creative renaissance. In part one of an extensive talk, Allred discusses why he returned to Madman, and why he believes this will be the best Madman series ever.
